Pablo Millalen Lepin is from Lof MaƱiuko, a Mapuche territory located in the Galvarino area, the Araucania region, southern Chile. He is a member of the Comunidad de Historia Mapuche, a collective of Indigenous Mapuche researchers based in Temuco. This talk examines the expansion of large-scale forestry plantations in Wallmapu, the ancestral territory of the Mapuche people in what is now southern Chile. Through a critical analysis of land dispossession and colonial violence, this presentation explores how the massive cultivation of Pinus radiata and Eucalyptus globulus has led to intersecting crises, including ecological degradation, water scarcity, and social and cultural disruption, within Mapuche communities. By foregrounding Indigenous perspectives, the analysis illustrates how local struggles reveal broader patterns of environmental transformation.
