Join us for a virtual discussion on the current crisis in Venezuela and the aftermath of the U.S. military intervention. David Smilde and Leonardo Vivas will examine the challenges related to governance, democracy, global and U.S. politics, and potential future scenarios. This panel will be moderated by Juan Pablo Lupi (UCSB, Dept. of Spanish and Portuguese) and chaired by Juan Cobo (UCSB, History).

David Smilde is the Charles A. and Leo Favrot Professor of Human Relations and Chair of the Department of Sociology at Tulane University and Senior Fellow at the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA).

Leonardo Vivas teaches Comparative Political Economy at Lesley University. He was Director of Industry in the Development Ministry of Venezuela and ran the Latin American Program at the Carr Center for Human Rights at Harvard University
