The Horacio Roque Ramirez Central American Studies Scholarship, hosted by the Division of Social Sciences in collaboration with the Center for Latin American and Iberian Research, is now accepting applications. Qualified students must be pursuing a major within the Division of Social Sciences at UCSB. Two awardees will receive a $1,500 scholarship. The purpose of this scholarship is to celebrate Central American history, culture, community, and studies at UC Santa Barbara. The scholarship is in honor of Professor Horacio Roque Ramirez (1969-2015), whose ethnographic and archival research focused on Central Americans in the US, queer Latinx community life in San Francisco, and Latino sexuality and hope in an era of AIDS and deportation. At UCSB, he developed the courses “Central Americans in the U.S./The U.S. in Central America,” and “Salvadoran Diasporas”. For more information & to apply, see this form.
